PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS TO GROW OUR ECONOMY
Building directly on his experience and successes in the City of Stamford, Mike will be ready to make the dramatic reforms necessary to restore confidence in Connecticut.
CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR JOB GROWTH
The purpose of government is not to create jobs but rather to foster an environment where the private sector can create jobs. By reducing bureaucracy and refocusing our efforts on improving the quality of our education and infrastructure, the private sector will be freed up to grow and expand their businesses.
Connecticut desperately needs upgrades to its roads, bridges, rails and schools. But we really need to be focused on the next generation of infrastructure including autonomous driving lanes, clean energy projects, and high-speed rail.
The savings from thoughtful and strategic budget cuts will be passed on to taxpayers.
And here is how we pay for it.
CONVERT PENSIONS TO DEFINED CONTRIBUTION PLANS
Mike is ready to make the major changes to the State’s pension system that are necessary to address the massive unfunded pension liability. It is unfair to employees to pretend that this unsustainable benefit is going to be there when they need it the most. We must convert all active employee pensions to defined-contribution (401k-type) retirement plans. It is time to deliver to our employees a cost-effective and fully funded retirement benefit that is in-line with the private sector.
At $26 billion and growing dramatically, the State’s OPEB liability must be addressed. Healthcare plans for employees must match those of their private sector counterparts. We can no longer afford to ignore the hidden costs embedded in the pharmacy benefit managers. We must get control over our prescription drug costs.
RIGHT-SIZE GOVERNMENT AND EXIT NON-ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES
The State has an expense problem, not a revenue problem.
